list of unhealthy habits. The Americans have clearly chosen eating too much and
exercising too little. I was shocked when I first heard that two
thirds of the adult American population is obese. They are not overweight but
OBESE! I was overweight once and when I look back at how I looked and how I was feeling,
I can tell you that I don’t want to go through that again... I was
only overweight and I can’t imagine being obese. I was so fat that even
after 3 years from the time I was fat I can still wear the clothes that I wore
when I was 12. And the majority is even too big for me! And you know what was
the worst thing about being overweight? It was the feeling that you are not as good as the other people. The feeling that you are less of a person than
everybody else. The feeling of being ashamed of the way you looked 24/7. I can
honestly say that loosing those 12 kilos (or 26.5 pounds) was one of the best
things that happened to me. In a recent study they compared health risk of
being obese and smoking and the conclusion was that they are not so far from
each other. So that means that you can shorten your life by about 10 years also
by just being obese. But sometimes you can’t help it and your lifestyle just
leads you to being fat. I mean in the big cities in America people are always
in a hurry. But one way or another they have to eat, don’t they? But what
do they eat? Well fast food of course! It has so many benefits for them! Their lunch
is fast, cheap and tasty! You get your soda so you can get that sugar buzz you
have been craving for the whole day. Did you know that in a half liter (or
20 oz) of soda you have 275 calories. And those are empty calories! You don’t
get any protein, fibre or healthy fats from it. Just sugar. Actually 15
teaspoons of sugar. That’s just crazy! And another factor that contributes to
your „fatness“ is stress. If you are under a lot of stress your body
produces a hormone called cortisol which makes your organism go catabolic.
Simply put, it makes you store more fat. And naturally if you don’t have time
for lunch than you don’t have time to exercise so you just go on like this for
a year and voilà! You have just become overweight. And if you go on
another year you will become obese. This is a great health threat for the
society. Child obesity leads to bone problems, diabetes and asthma. And you
know what the worst thing about child obesity is? It is the fact that they don’t
know what being healthy feels. I didn’t know it too and it was a miracle
that I gathered the will to change that. I really hope that the world wont turn
to a place where the average person would have three chins and die of clogged
arteries at the age of 40…The world has already learnt the dangers of smoking. Will it take
another 50 years until the people learn that about being overweight too?
